CNS Mental Wellness offers a way to help treat depression and anxious depression without all of the expensive medication and their side effects. TMS stands for transcranial magnetic stimulation. This treatment uses magnetic fields to stimulate cells in the brain. Because of its repetitive nature, TMS is often referred to as rTMS. The device we use in our office is the Brainsway that provides Deep TMS or dTMS. This procedure is a safe alternative to traditional ways of treating common mental illnesses.
The magnetic pulses that reach the brain are meant to stimulate the parts of the brain that are affected by illnesses such as MDD (major depressive disorder) and anxious depression. In doing so, patients experience relief from their symptoms. This treatment is noninvasive, meaning it requires no surgery and minimal discomfort. It is also non-pharmaceutical meaning you don’t have to take yet another pill!
Safety is of great importance and concern when it comes to treating illnesses like depression and anxious depression. TMS, though it may sound scary, is an incredibly safe treatment. During the procedure, the patient wears a padded helmet connected to a machine which activates the magnetic pulses. These repeated magnetic wave pulses reach the areas of the brain which are affected by a given condition. With the machine, doctors and technicians can control the intensity of these pulses based on the response of the patient. All patients are awake during the TMS treatment. The procedure does not need the patient to be given any anesthesia. You relax in a comfortable chair during treatment and can go about your day right after.
For the procedure to be most successful, patients need to receive magnetic stimulation for daily, over 4-6 weeks. The sessions typically last around 20 minutes. Symptoms are expected to be relieved most effectively when a patient follows a clear schedule. Response rates may not be as high if a patient misses a session.
The ultimate goal of CNS Mental Wellness is to provide safe, effective treatments to individuals who have continually struggled with their mental health. TMS treatment process can help provide patients with the relief they have been searching for.
